Franco Albini & Franca Helg

Franco Albini was an Italian architect of great importance, who left his mark on the panorama of Rationalism and industrial design. Together with his colleague Franca Helg, he created projects ranging from large to small scale, from the renovation of the stations of the line 1 of the Milan subway, to the creation of museums throughout Italy. In the field of design, Albini and Helg have created pieces of furniture and accessories that are considered timeless and innovative both in the design approach and in the choice of materials. Their production is an internationally recognized point of reference for the innovation of the design culture of the early twentieth century. In 1963, Franco Albini and Franca Helg embarked on an exciting challenge: experimenting with plastic to create cutting-edge lighting for Arteluce. Summoned by the famous designer Gino Sarfatti to explore the possibilities offered by new technologies and materials, the two designers created a Model 2050 suspension lamp: a perfect union between glass, represented by the opal diffuser, and the bold use of methacrylate, a material all era new and innovative.
