Shigeaki Asahara

Shigeaki Asahara, an internationally renowned Japanese designer, has made the combination of Japanese aesthetics and European functionality his distinctive trademark. After graduating with a degree in industrial design, he brought his unique style to Belgium, where he created works that blend natural materials with geometric shapes, earning global recognition.

In the 1980s, Asahara worked as a freelancer, collaborating with major Italian and Japanese brands such as Stilnovo, Daiko and Ushio Spax. Among his most iconic creations, the Tokio lamp was selected for the prestigious Compasso d'Oro and is now part of the permanent collection of the Brooklyn Museum. In 2019, some of his historic models, such as Ziggurat and Palomar, were reissued, a sign of his continuing influence.
